About UMHS-PUHSC Joint Institute

In 2010, Peking University Health Center(PUHSC) and the University of Michigan Medical School signed an unprecedented agreement to establish a joint Institute (JI) for Transitional & Clinical Research. Each institute contributed 7 million USD for the 2010 launch and both renewed their financial commitment with repeat 7 million USD investments in 2015, securing the JI and the international collaboration for years to come.

Much of the research focused on four key areas of interest to both institute: cardiovascular, liver, pulmonary, and renal diseases. At the same time, Infrastructure “Cores”- Bio-repository and biomedical Informatics; Collaboration; IRB and Human Protection – help the partners overcome specific challenges or concerns associated with global collaboration. The annual JI Symposium, held on alternating years in Beijing and Ann Arbor, brings all of the researchers from both institutions together to share progress, advance projects, and forge new partnerships.
